Russian tourists killed in bus crash

Two Russian tourists were killed in a bus accident on Wednesday on a bus tour from Pattaya beach to Bangkok.

The accident occurred around 10:00 on the busy Chon Buri Motorway on Wednesday morning, killing two people and injuring 11, police and hospital sources said.

The bus crashed and overturned close to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, said Highway Police Lt Col Chartchai Kuanjai.

According to Chartchai ‘There was heavy rainfall at the time of the accident and the bus driver collided with a car and then the bus overturned on its side.’

A woman Russian tourist died at the scene of the accident, while another Russian tourist died en route to the hospital.

Nine tourists in all were admitted to Samitivej Srinakkarin Hospital in Bangkok; one of which was said to be in serious condition. Two others were sent to Chulalat Hospital.

The tour bus belonged to the Sermyon Tour company and was taking Russian tourists to visit the Emerald Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Keow) in Bangkok.

The Chon Buri Motorway has always been a busy and dangerous stretch of road in the high season and during inclement weather.

During the last decade, Pattaya has become an increasingly popular destination for Russian tourists.
