  • Design hotels open in Thailand

A new chain of ‘design resorts and hotels’ has just been launched in Thailand, designed to cater to those travelers with an eye for aesthetics. The chain has been called X2 and is becoming referred to as ‘cross to’ and will focus on style and design.

The new company described the concept in a recently released statement. “The X2 owners recognized that those individuals who appreciate style and design were becoming less satisfied with the traditional tropical resort designs that, while well executed, proliferate the Asian region.

The brand will focus their designs around three main themes: soul, freedom and simplicity. Using these brands, the new company hopes to branch out and break free of the traditional tropical resort concept many travelers to Thailand are all to familiar with.

The location of the first X2 resort to open will be in Kui Buri, located near the popular beach resort of Hua Hin, just a three hour drive south from Bangkok.

Each villa on the new property is identical in its construction, however, each unit has a unique way of placing its terrace, pool and garden area and a different orientation.

All of the X2 resorts will also include a 4K (fork) restaurant which will serve western, eastern and fusion cuisine. X2 plans to expand and open resorts in Koh Samui and Koh Kood which will open in summer 2008 and late 2009.

  • Where to Golf in Hua Hin

Foreign tourists and golfers from Thailand alike love the greens in Hua Hin, a beach resort town just a few hours from Bangkok. A popular weekend getaway for those who live in the capital city, Hua Hin is known for its gorgeous sunshine, exceptionally good weather and great golfing.

The Royal Hua Hin Golf Course was the first of its kind in Thailand and has been welcoming golfers for 80 years. Despite embracing a western game, the course remains remarkably Thai, with shrubs sculpted into mythical creatures and animals native to Thailand. The course sets high standards for golfing in the country, offering some of the best caddies in the region, known fondly as ‘the canaries’ for their yellow attire.

The Majestic Creek & Milford Golf Course is a championship course with 27 holes nestled amidst farmland, pineapple groves and mango trees. It is often favored by those staying at the Dusit Resort Hotel due to its close proximity and great water holes.

The Springfield Golf Course is a challenging championship 18-hole course and is said by many to be the best course in the country. The teaching staff are PGA professionals and the scenery surrounding the greens is spectacular.

Max Wexler designed the Palm Hills Golf Course, but it is perhaps most popular among golfers who just love the game, even if they can’t play it very well. The course offers glimpses of the ocean, the sounds of the serve and a cool breeze off the sea.

In 2008 the Black Mountain Golf Course will stage a PGA Tour event. The course actually has two parts. The East Course offers championship level golfing while the West Course is a more relaxed resort course.

Hua Hin has a number of excellent resorts and restaurants. Many accommodations can arrange reservations at any of the six golf courses and some can also provide partners.
