  • Pair of insolent cobras still at large

In true B-horror movie style, in a Saathip neighbourhood near Pattaya, Thailand, two king cobra snakes have been effectively terrorizing the village children since the end of August.

The fact that the two deadly snakes were purportedly chasing down local children in the street was first made public when 60-year old Pratuan Wuttipo contacted the local radio station to request assistance in capturing the cheeky reptiles who she said had hunting down kids on August 27th.

She told the Rochana Thammasathan Foundation Radio Center that residents were staying indoors after dark for fear of the marauding ophidians. The response by rescue workers was to clear away the thick grass from beside the roadside with an excavator, but when the machine broke down during the process, the eagerly superstitious locals were sure it was the work of the demon serpents.

One report states that Pattarpol Kongbuntam, a 10-year old neighbourhood boy was peacefully riding his bicycle home from school when the roaming reptilian freebooters lunged form the street-side and rose and hissed at the boy.

Sightings have been reported on a daily basis of the pair of malevolent crusaders slithering across roads, under houses, yet remain under the protection of whichever baleful spirit sent them as they remain at large.

  • Handicap access lacking in Pattaya

Handicapped people have recently voiced concern over the maintenance of wheelchair access ramps around the city of Pattaya. The city council has implemented a policy for upkeep of handicap ramps and such, but so far reactions to problems have been slow and there are still potholes to be found on access ramps to Pattaya beach, making it impossible for wheelchairs to make the journey.

Handicapped visitors claim getting to the beach from the main road is a very difficult thing. One recent visitor to the city had this to say: “Even though there is one way traffic, looking several times is needed before crossing the road. It’s already difficult enough for normal people to get across, but it’s more difficult for me because I have to cross with my wheelchair. Where are the zebra crossings?

As reported by the Pattaya Mail, a city hall official took a more optimistic view. “Regarding the walkways to the sea, some were changed after construction because the surface was being covered by sand blown by the wind. We are looking at these various problems and will resolve them as quickly as we can. It was important for Pattaya City to go ahead with the main plan for the disabled, in line with Mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn’s policy on the welfare of disabled people. This in some ways is still a project under design.
