One-Two-Go airline set to resume flights
After passing a number of strict safety and operating tests given by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), the budget carrier One-Two-Go looks set to resume flights sometime in November. The airline was grounded by the DCA a year ago after a tragic crash in Phuket and revelations that some of their pilots were not qualified. Further investigations revealed that the carrier operated below-standard safety standards and had poor management.
But the airline’s founder Udom Tantiprasongchai has confirmed that his company received the Air Operator Certificate from the DCA and would begin flying as soon as possible. The first flights One-Two-Go plans to resume are its domestic trunk routes from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Bangkok to Phuket.
Udom told reporters the airline is thinking about switching to Boeing 737s in the future. It currently flies MD80 jetliners, which are becoming outdated. Udom admits that this isn’t the best time to return to the skies as Thailand battles its political tensions and a global economic crisis. "We can't really count on the forthcoming high season to recoup lost business if the situation in Thailand remains disastrous as it is," Udom said.

Orient Air and One-Two-Go Shut Down by Thai Authorities
In response to an investigation by the Department of Civil Aviation that Orient Air and One-Two-Go violated air safety laws, both carriers have had their operating licenses revoked. The allegations stem from the fatal crash of a One-Two-Go plane at Phuket’s airport.
Chaisak Aungsuwan, the director of the Department of Civil Aviation, condemned both One-Two-Go and its parent company Orient Air for inadequate maintenance and a lack of supervision concerning safety and maintenance by the management. The two Thai carriers, One-Two-Go in particular, falsified the results of proficiency tests taken by their pilots and did not adhere to the industry standard for pilots’ working hours.
The carriers did not conduct mandatory safety training or even check up on their pilots’ knowledge of the safety manual. Chaisak stated that “the department will file criminal suits against their pilots, inspectors and the companies within two weeks.” Several families of the crash victims are also planning lawsuits against the airlines. Orient Air and One-Two-Go will have to show that they have brought their standards up to regulation before the department will consider allowing them to resume operations.

More One Two Go problems
A One Two Go flight recently had to make a return to Chiang Mai airport after engine problems.
Flight OG 8127, operated by Thai budget airline One Two Go, had to return to Chiang Mai International Airport on Friday due to technical problems just minutes after taking off.
The flight was full of passengers and it was just 10 minutes into the flight (17:30 departure) when the captain informed passengers that they would be returning to Chiang Mai Airport due to technical problems.
One passenger said the plane shook heavily and that there was a very loud noise coming from the air-conditioners while the aircraft was taking off.
Some passengers waited for another One Two Go flight which would depart several hours later at 22:00, while others had their tickets refunded and purchased flights with other airlines.
Flight OG 8127 had both Thais and foreigners aboard.
It was just over five months ago on September 16 that One Two Go Airlines flight 269 crash landed at Phuket International Airport, killing 90.
Bad weather was to blame although there is speculation over the airline's maintenance procedures as well as the excessive number of hours worked by pilots.
This recent hiccup for One Two Go is sure to hit consumer confidence again just when passenger numbers are creeping back up after the disastrous Phuket flight.
