No Birthday Songs for Suu Kyi in Burma
Today is Aung San Suu Kyi's 62nd birthday, and also "Women of Burma day" in her honour. Though there are no public celebrations in Burma, there have been some events in Bangkok. Unfortunately Suu Kyi must celebrate the day alone, under her ongoing house arrest.
The Nation carries some reactions of Burmese women to the day and The Burma Campaign UK is encouraging continued actions to help Suu Kyi find freedom.

Outside Reactions to Suu Kyi's Extended Detention
After the extension of Aung San Suu Kyi's house arrest by the Junta for another year last Friday, there have been ongoing protests in Rangoon by her supporters. Other countries have joined in the condemnation of the Burmese authorities as well. The Irrawaddy reported about Thai activists protesting on the issue outside the Burmese embassy in Bangkok last night, while Indonesia expressed their concerns about the disregard for human rights.

Suu Kyi Supporters Face off with Burmese Junta
Aung San Suu Kyi supporters were attacked by junta-backed groups last Friday. The supporters were praying for Suu Kyi's release at a Rangoon pagoda when a confrontation between two sides happened. Some witness called The Irrawaddy about the incident. That magazine reported on the events here.
The BBC has more information about subsequent actions by Suu Kyi supporters following the extension of her detension by Burma's military rulers on the 17th anniversary of her party's win at the polls.

Suu Kyi 's Supporters Arrested in Pagoda
Unidentified people seized 15 pro-democracy activists on Wednesday while they were praying for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi at Kyaik Ka Lot pagoda in Rangoon. The group was released a few hours later. The Irrawaddy has some more details.

Can Suu Kyi Get her Freedom?
Aung San Suu Kyi's current term of house arrest expires on May 27. The Bangkok Post reports that Burma's National League for Democracy has once again called on the junta to release her.
